Amazon Aurora Adds New Reader Endpoint

Amazon Aurora is AWS’s highly-available, MySQL-compatible relational database. AWS has announced that Aurora has just added a new cluster-level read endpoint. Thanks to this improvement, you now have access to a more powerful and easier to use Amazon Aurora.

You can update to your application to use this endpoint, which provides you with two important features:

Load balancing for Amazon Aurora

Connecting to the endpoint lets Aurora load-balance connections among the replicas in the DB cluster. By spreading the read workload, it improves performance and allows for better resource management.

In case of a failover, if the replica you are currently connected to has been set as the primary instance, Aurora drops the connection. You may reconnect later to the reader endpoint to send read requests to the other replicas in the cluster.

Higher Availability

You may now install Aurora replicas across different Availability Zones and connect them to the endpoint. This way, your replicas can still send read information with few problems, even if one Zone should fail.

This feature is available now. If you want to start in with Amazon Aurora and cloud databases, contact our cloud consultants at PolarSeven today.
