Amazon Aurora, AWS’s high-performance relational database, just received another upgrade. Aside from being compatible with MySQL, it is now compatible with PostgreSQL as well.
This feature is now available in four AWS regions as of right now. Compatibility is with PostgreSQL 9.6.3, which may scale up to cover 64 TB of storage, and has 6-way replication to promote performance and availability. Performance-wise, it gives 3 times the throughput on a regular PostgreSQL that you set up on your own.
You can select PostgreSQL from the RDS menu, under Amazon Aurora. From there, you may select from 6 instance classes ranging from 2 to 64 vCPU and 15.25 to 488 GB of memory, as well as several other options. Each instance will automatically transmit 44 metrics to AWS CloudWatch and you may even enable advanced monitoring.
Another interesting feature is Performance Insights, which lets you have a deep look into the resources used by each DB query and their effect on response time. You can learn more about this feature from the Performance Insights documentation.
