Ready to get your game on? AWS has launched new products to help you develop cloud-based games for different platforms.
By combining a professional game development engine, an existing AWS service, and integrating everything with the Twitch video platform, AWS has come up with a great way to create, support, and gain an audience for your games.
- Lumberyard – this tool combines CryEngine, Double Helix, and AWS code to allow an organized and easy development of cloud-connected 3D games. It also provides support for the essentials: AI and character develoment, physics, indoor and outdoor environments, audio, and more.
- Amazon GameLift – this backend component allows you to deploy and scale session-based multiplayer game servers created from Lumberyard.
You no longer have to spend money on your own collection of servers and machines to host games. GameLift lets you upload your game image to AWS then deploy them across several EC2 instances to scale the game, depending the number of players joining in.
- Twitch – since gaming has a social dimension, Twitch integration makes sure your players can connect and interact with each other. Two Twitch features help with this: ChatPlay lets your games detect and automatically respond to keywords in Twitch chat streams, while JoinIn allows a broadcaster to invite players in the channel to enter the game.
- Support services – you can get help from forums and tutorials, as well as product support depending on payment tier.
You can use Lumberyard for free, and only pay for calls to AWS services such as GameLift. In other words, you can start building awesome, widely-playable games right now.
