AWS has announced that from now on, you can choose to have longer resource IDs will be available EBS and Storage Gateway.
You can select the new format through the AWS Management Console, the AWS Command Line Interface (CLI), the AWS Tools for Windows PowerShell, or through the ModifyIDFormat API function.
Those who decide to opt in will have to test their processes with the new format. Some older versions of the AWS SDKs and CLIs are not compatible. However, resources that existed before opting in will keep their shorter identifiers.
The latest AWS regions as well as new accounts in all commercial regions (excluding Beijing) will get this new format by default. However, one can opt out before December this year.
