Route 53 Enhancements

Providing a highly scalable Domain Name Service (DNS), Amazon Route 53 can connect user requests to several AWS service infrastructures, including EC2 instances, load balancers, and S3 buckets. AWS has implemented health checks before, but they have now added two new types: calculated health checks and latency checks.

For calculated health checks, you can now combine several health check results into a single value, allowing you unify the checks into an overall snapshot of your system’s health.

Additionally, you can task Route 53 to report on metrics affecting latency, such as TCP connection time, time to first byte, and time accomplish an SSL handshake. Since the results are directly displayed on your Console, this easily lets you spot where the latency problems are occurring.

Starting Out With Amazon Route 53

You can find out about pricing for health checks at the Route 53 page. If you need help configuring your AWS EC2 instances or want to optimally set up your own health checks, feel free to contact our cloud experts here at PolarSeven.

This introductory video covers the basic steps needed to get started with Route 53.
