Amazon EBS (Elastic Block Store) provides EC2 instances with an efficient block level storage volumes. Given it’s a highly useful feature, AWS has announce that it is lowering the price for Amazon EBS by 47% and raising PIOPS per GB.

With this, AWS encourages everyone to take advantage of EBS and make create backups more often. To support this, AWS is providing another enhancement: more provisioned IOPS per GB of storage.

Provisioned IOPS lets you dictate the performance you want from your EBS volume. The bigger the volume, the more PIOPS you can use, up to 20,000 PIOPS.

As of today, AWS has raised the standard PIOPS from 30 per GB to 50. That’s a 66% increase, and will let you create smaller volumes with roughly the same level of performance as before.

Find out how you can best use Amazon EBS with EC2 instances. Consult with PolarSeven to set up the best compute environment for your enterprise.
