Amazon Kinesis Analytics for Real-Time Data Processing

Need an efficient way to process real-time data streams? Amazon Kinesis does just that. Instead of provisioning your own data center for analysis, you can just set up a Kinesis Stream or Kinesis Firehouse and feed it your raw data. From there you can use your application to analyze the information.

AWS has improved this service by creating Amazon Kinesis Analytics. This lets you run continuous SQL queries on the data as it arrives. This way you can focus on analyzing data instead of worrying about the hardware and software to do so.

What’s more, the SQL queries you make persist, processing data as it receives it. Best of all, you can do this in a handful of minutes and an SQL query.

To process the data stream, Amazon Kinesis Analytics makes use of three types of windows

  • Tumbling – used for periodic reports. Useful for summarizing data over a period of time.
  • Sliding – used for monitoring and detecting trends, say, a moving average for error rate.
  • Custom – used for groupings not based on time. You can set a start and end for the session as you will.

Amazon Kinesis Analytics is available right now. Need help setting up big data analytics for you enterprise? Call our cloud specialists at PolarSeven today.
