The AWS Cost Explorer tool lets you keep track of your spending on AWS. By providing reports and analytical tools, you can keep track of your cloud expenses and analyze your spending patterns. AWS Cost Explorer even lets you drill down into specific areas and set up your own filters for better analysis.
AWS has announced that Cost Explorer will have its own specialized Reserved Instance Utilization report. This will allow you to track and manage your organization’s total costs when using reserved instances. This is particularly useful if you have thousands of RIs that need to be tracked.
You have all the existing filtering options of Cost Explorer. The report shows utilization of up to one year. It also shows you aggregate usage or you can drill down to individual usage. You can also set up a utilization threshold to gauge your actual usage.
This way, it becomes simpler to detect RI subscriptions that are trending below your desire utilization levels. It will even provide you the account owner, instance type, and unused hours.
