AWS has opened a brand new database migration service, which will allow you to transfer data from an on-premise SQL, MySQL, Oracle, MariaDB or PostGreSQL database to AWS. You will have practically no downtime, and can leverage on scalability, ease-of-use, and efficiency.
The AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) lets you move terabyte scale databases to the cloud, and either maintain or change the kind of database you have.
To do this, DMS helps you create a replication instance in AWS, which unloads data from the source DB and loads onto the destination cloud DB. By having a one time migration followed by an ongoing one, you minimize your downtime.
You may start using DMS today. You can connect to any on-premise DB using AWS Direct Connect and alter your database scheme using the AWS Schema Conversion Tool.
