AWS has recently announced upgrades to AWS S3 and AWS Snowball that are designed to speed up data transfers:
AWS S3 Transfer Acceleration
AWS has made it easier to transfer data in and out of Simple Storage Service (S3). You simply enable this feature at the AWS Management Console.
After this, your connections will be routed through the locations with the best latency. Given that you will be using fully optimized networks and connections, you will find it easier to transfer large amounts of data, even across continents.
There is no upfront fee for using Transfer Acceleration and you pay only $0.04 for each Gigabyte you upload.
Larger Snowballs, More Regions
AWS Import/Export Snowball lets you transfer large amounts of data to the AWS cloud via a highly secure physical storage device shipped to and from your datacenter. Snowball used to have a max capacity of 50 TB. The newer appliances now have up to 80 TB.
Moreover, Snowball is now available in four other regions: AWS GovCloud (US), US West (Northern California), Europe (Ireland), and Asia Pacific (Sydney).
